Grand Manan is located in the middle of the Bay of Fundy in New
Brunswick Canada. When you leave the mainland in Black's
Harbour, you leave all your problems on the shore as you travel for
one and a half hours by ferry to the remote island of Grand Manan.
The Grand Manan V has decks on several levels where you can relax as
you travel to the beautiful, tranquil island. The captain will
announce whale sightings on your journey to the island. You
will also see seals and dozens of dolphins swimming in the bay.
As you near the island the magnificent rock cliffs will dazzle you.
As your trip ends you will pass by the Swallowtail Lighthouse and
then dock at the ferry terminal. From there it is only a short
trip to my cottage. My cottage is located on Long Bank.
It has a spectacular view in every direction. On my last trip
to the island I had four seals staying right off my beach for the
entire week. Birds abound on
the island, and over 300 species have been observed there.
Grand Manan is in the middle of the Bay of Fundy so it is on the
migration route for many birds. The last week of May is an
ideal time for birders.
